Changing 2003 Server to a Workstation

  • First, shut off the IE Enhanced Security. (Microsofts answer to making some safter is to just not let it work! )

           : Control Panel - Add and remove programs - add/remove windows components - scroll down until you see internet explorer enhanced security configuration.  Click details and uncheck both the boxes. Then click ok, and ok.

  • Shut down that lying "shutdown tracker" - (Microsofts way of making sure you know there is no reason to reboot their OS cause it's a POS.

          : This is done as follows

  1. Start- run - type gpedit.msc

  2. browse to computer configuration - administrative templates - system

  3. look in the right window pane and double click on the "display shutdown event tracker"

  4. select disable and then ok. Then close the group policy object editor

  • Enabling Graphics Hardware Acceleration

  1. Right click anywhere on your desktop and select properties - settings tab - advanced - and finally, the troubleshoot tab

  2. Now, move the hardware acceleration slider across to full.

  3. Click ok

  • Enabling DirectX

  1. Start - run -dxdiag

  2. Click yes

  3. Click on display tab. Now click on all three boxes to enable DirectDraw, Direct3D and AGP Texture Acceleration.

  • Enable sound acceleration

  1. Start - run -and type services.msc

  2. scroll down until you find "windows audio".

  3. double click on windows audio

  4. change the startup type to automatic, then apply - start - ok

  5. then go back into directx diagnostics. click start - run - type dxdiag

  6. goto the sound tab and move the slider on "hardware sound acceleration level" to full acceleration.
